(Reuters) - Apple Inc has started testing a new iPhone and the next version of its iOS software, news website The Next Web reported.

Apple shares were up 2.6 percent at $546.06 in premarket trading. The stock closed at $532.17 on the Nasdaq on Monday.

Application developers have found in their app usage logs references to a new iPhone identifier, iPhone 6.1, running iOS 7 operating system, the website reported.

Apple's iPhone 5 bears the identifiers "iPhone 5.1" and "iPhone 5.2" and is powered by iOS 6 operating system.

Developer logs show that the app requests originate from an internet address on Apple's Cupertino campus, suggesting that Apple engineers are testing compatibility for some of the popular apps, the website said.

"Although OS and device data can be faked, the unique IP footprint leading back to Apple's Cupertino campus leads us to believe this is not one of those attempts," the website said.

Apple launched iPhone 5 in September and it has been reported that the new iPhone will be released in the middle of 2013.

How Does The iPhone 5 Improve Upon The iPhone 4S?

How Does The iPhone 5 Improve Upon The iPhone 4S?

Apple’s current version of the iPhone is the iPhone 5 which was released this September by retailers like Dialaphone. This mobile phone provides some significant upgrades from its previous iPhone, the 4S. Many of these enhancements are significant enough that many owners of previous iPhone models have upgraded.

iPhone 5

One of the biggest changes with the iPhone 5 is that it is now capable of supporting speedy 4G networks. Up until the release of the iPhone 5, the only Apple device compatible with 4G networks was the latest version of the iPad. Apple also redesigned the headphones for release with the iPhone 5. The EarPods are specially designed to deliver music straight into your ears which helps to block out extraneous sounds.

The cameras built into the iPhone 5 are much better. At face value, many will notice that the iPhone 5 has the same resolution as the iPhone 4S which is a 8 megapixels. However, the important updates to the camera actually surround the technology which is built around them. The iPhone 5 includes a hybrid IR filter. It also has a mode that works well in low light.

The cover of the phone is a sapphire crystal. The iPhone 5 also has iOS 6 which improves the ability of the phone to process images. The front facing phone is also a step up from the 4S. It has a resolution of 1.2 megapixels and is capable of capturing 720p video. All of these aspects make the cameras clearly better with the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 clearly has a much more powerful processor. As a result, tasks can be performed much faster with this latest version than with the 4S. Many wonder what specifically was changed but it seems Apple would rather keep mum about it than divulge their secrets.

How To Change Your iPhone’s Carrier Logo

How To Change Your iPhone’s Carrier Logo

Whether you’re new to iOS, or just want to pick up some useful tips and tricks, we’re here to help. This is iOS Advice.

I’ve always wondered why it’s so important for our devices to have carrier logos. I certainly don’t need to be reminded of Verizon every time I look at my iPhone.

Luckily, there’s a new jailbreak-free method to get rid of your device’s carrier logo and replace it with something unique. The process uses a Mac application created by Kevin Ko (@uhelios) and Daniel Levi (@Pix3lDemon) called CarrierEditor.

If you’d like to learn how to change your iPhone’s carrier logo, watch the video or follow the steps below:

Note: I highly recommend checking out this video overview of this process. Also, this will only work on an iPhone or iPad with 3G/LTE service. CarrierEditor is compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 or greater.

Step 2: Once you’ve downloaded the file, open it up and copy CarrierEditor to your Applications folder. Also, make sure you copy the “Zeppelin Logos” folder to your desktop.

Step 3: Launch CarrierEditor, then click on “Let’s Get Started.” First, we need to find the device’s carrier version. Go into the Settings app on your device, tap on “General” and then tap on “About.”

Enter your carrier’s version number.Look for the row labeled “Carrier” and take note of the version number listed. Next, enter your carrier version number into the text box within CarrierEditor, then click on “Next.”

Select your device and carrier on this screen.
Step 4: On the next screen you’ll have the ability to select your device and carrier. Not all carriers are supported, but there’s quite a long list of them to choose from. Once you’ve selected the device and carrier, click on “Next.”

Drag the appropriate custom logos from the “Zeppelin Logos” folder into the little boxes on the screen.
Step 5: Once you’ve made it to the “Customization” screen, you’ll have the ability to add a custom logo for your carrier replacement. The application includes a wide variety of custom logos that are located in the “Zeppelin Logos” folder.

When you’ve decided on your custom carrier logo, drag the image files into the appropriate boxes within CarrierEditor. Next, click on “Compile Carrier Update (.ipcc).”

Step 6: Open iTunes and connect your iOS device with its USB cable. Click on your device within iTunes and locate the “Restore iPhone…” button. While holding down the “alt / option” key, click on “Restore iPhone…” and navigate to your desktop within the dialog box. CarrierEditor has created two files on your desktop.

The file names will depend on your carrier and version number. Select the “.ipcc” file that does not include the word “original” in its name. Don’t worry, this process won’t restore your iOS device, it simply updates the carrier settings to include a custom logo.
Once you’ve selected the carrier update file, iTunes may show you an “Updating carrier settings” box. After you’re finished, reboot your device. Within a minute or two you should see your new custom carrier logo appear at the top of the screen.

How To Use Lost Mode To Help Recover Your Missing iOS Device

How To Use Lost Mode To Help Recover Your Missing iOS Device

Whether you’re new to iOS, or just want to pick up some useful tips and tricks, we’re here to help. This is iOS Advice.

Find My iPhone is a great way to locate a missing iOS device. Along with the release of iOS 6, Apple updated Find My iPhone with a new feature called “Lost Mode.” This feature allows you to securely lock an iOS device and display a custom message along with a contact number. Lost Mode is only available for devices running iOS 6.

When enabled on an iPhone, Lost Mode will allow the finder to call the contact number displayed from the device itself.

If you’ve lost your iOS 6 device, you can enable Lost Mode using Find My iPhone or on iCloud.com, but we’re going to focus on doing it through the app. Check out the video below for a detailed overview of this process.

In order to use Lost Mode, you must have Find My iPhone enabled within iCloud through the Settings app on your device.

If you’d like to learn how to use Lost Mode for iOS 6, watch the video or follow the steps below:

Step 1: Download Find My iPhone from the App Store on any iOS device. Next, Launch the app and login using your Apple ID.

Step 2: The app will now display a list of all iOS devices registered under your Apple ID. Select your missing device from the list by tapping on it.

Step 3: After you’ve selected your device, a small map will display its location if it can be found. To enable Lost Mode on the selected device, tap on the “Lost Mode” button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Next, you’ll prompted to create and confirm a four digit passcode to lock the device. After you’re done with that, you’ll be prompted to enter a contact number. This number will be displayed on the device’s screen when Lost Mode is enabled.

When you’re finished entering a contact number, tap on “Next” in the top right corner. Finally, enter a custom message to appear above the number you’ve entered, then tap on “Done.”

The missing device will be locked and display your custom message along with the contact number if it’s connected to the Internet. If the device is offline, Lost Mode will be enabled when it establishes an Internet connection.

In theory, a good Samaritan will find your device and call the number displayed on the screen. While it’s not a sure-fire way to recover your missing iOS device, enabling Lost Mode is a great way to help make it possible.
